It's all started with ... ...

In case you stumble across this blog (poor you!), you may probably think "Well, this is just another beauty blog" and yes it is indeed. I don't know about you, but I have subscribed to tons of these beauty blogs out there to a point that I can just skim through the headings in my reader, pick one or two that interested me and read on.

But to me, this is about a huge transition in my life - I am working my way into the makeup artist world. I have enrolled in an intensive professional makeup class starting next month, feeling both excited and nervous. I really want to pull it off and I am prepared to work my ass off for that. It is going to be a challenging journey probably, and this blog will document every bit of it, both the goods and the bads. Let's get started.

The makeup school that I enrolled in provides all the cosmetics we need for class except we have to bring our own brushes. Despite the fact that I am a bit slack on my daily makeup routine, I am quite selective on makeup brushes. At the same time, I feel like I know nothing about what makes a good makeup brush. The brush I use everyday is a Hakuhodo powder brush - it is super soft and not scratchy at all! Soft or stiff, scratchy or not are the only qualities I can tell (well, maybe also whether it picks up a lot of product) from a brush. As ignorant as that, I think it is safer to get some affordable brushes to start with. With little research, Sigma seems to be my choice.

Sigma Brushes
I bought 2 of their brush sets, the Complete Kit without brush roll ($79) and the Synthetic Face Kit ($42).

Sigma Brushes
All brushes are put in these mesh satchels and packed in a box when it arrived - no bubble and no peanuts, I really appreciate that as excessive packaging is not my thing. Care cards and instruction leaflets are included, quite thoughtful.

Sigma Brushes
All handles are covered in plastic sleeves. Face brushes are protected by plastic caps in addition.

Sigma Complete Kit
The Complete Kit - 12 face and eye brushes

Sigma Synthetic Face Kit
Synthetic Face Kit, including 3 long handled kabuki brushes with round, flat and angled top. I didn't intend to buy these but I read some really good comments even from those who don't care much about other Sigma brushes. I just couldn't resist to put one into the shopping cart =P

Sigma Brushes Gift
They also send me 2 brushes as gift, both are E25 blending brush, one in travel size, another in full size. I read that a travel size E25 comes with every order, I am not sure the additional full size E25 was sent to me because I ordered 2 kits or as an apology to their delay in shipment? Yes, it took them a whole week and an email from me to dispatch my order.

Sigma Brushes E25 Blending Brush
This was the first brush I took out when I got the package and it scared the crap out of me. The bristles look dry and brittle like straw and some of them sticking out. I checked other brushes and fortunately, they are in good shape.

Sigma Brushes
Spotted this glue mark on one of the brushes when I was editing the pictures.

I will definitely share with you my views on these brushes after trying them out extensively. My first impression is that most of them are quite soft except the largest face brush which is a bit scratchy. The synthetic face brushes are extremely dense and resilient, I can't wait to use them for apply foundation.

Detailed reviews coming soon, stay tune!

(In case you are curious, all products were bought with my own money and I am not affiliated with any company mentioned)
